Once a traditional fashion territory dominated by white satin and lace, the landscape of bridal shoes has (thankfully) come a long way. As firm believers that the shoe is maybe the only outfit component you’ll slip back on after the day, it makes sense to choose something suitably fabulous and not necessarily ‘bridal’ in nature. As a favourite detail to photograph while the bride prepares for her big day, we feel we’ve spent more time than most, up close and personal with almost every amazing shoe option out there. So from the already iconic to our prediction of future favourites, we felt obliged to share our personal front-runners for the year ahead, intended for anyone not in search of satin…
Cutting an elegant silhouette there’s a particular style of bold femininity found in a gold pump. Equal parts chicly modern and goddess-like-fierceness, these metallic points speak to the confident and contemporary bride. Best paired with a minimalist silk dress, either sleek or sculpted.
The Saint Laurent tribute heel is an icon for good reason. A sensual nod to the seventies this truly timeless shoe released each season in a spectrum of bridal perfect tints (think nude to gold to white) never ever dates, and is a particularly fabulous choice to wear again and again, long after the day.
The revival of the low block heel offers a quiet sophistication, not to mention serious comfort in the bridal shoe stakes. Screaming understated elegance, modern versions mix a kind of bygone femininity refreshed with magical embellishments (think a crystal strap or a gypsy star inset into the heel). They’re also the perfect choice for any tall gazelles who love the idea of a high heel, but where a 10cm height advantage would see them towering over their groom.
Sequinned flowers, mermaid scale crystals, feathered fringing….check, check, check. For the non-traditionalist bride there have never been so many exquisite options for a unique shoe. Sitting in the perfect scope of nude, blush and metallic, these dreamy designs are best revealed from beneath an equally romantic gown.
Re-imagined each season in perfect colours and new shapes, this modern icon remains on point. Our favourite options stray from traditional white into tints of blush, nude or pastel crystals. A future heirloom, if you don’t wear them.
