Spilling with dreamy silhouettes and breezy botanical prints, romance and femininity underpinned many of the Spring RTW shows. But far from the ‘yawn / florals’ vibe you might expect from ‘flowers in Spring’, these offerings felt unexpectedly effortless, unexpectedly grown-up, and dare we say it, sexy. Through a softer lens.
Tempering seriously plunging necklines with a romantic sleeve, or a billowing silhouette with bare shoulders, styling dialled up the sensuality levels while prints and colour palettes kept things more grounded. We’re calling collarbones and bare shoulders the ’new backless’ for the warmer seasons ahead (not to mention being about 1000 x more appropriate, as far as wedding dress codes go!).
Spilling with semi-sheer silks and 3D blooms, dusky pastels and romantic ruffles, this trend is undoubtedly feminine and perhaps even ‘pretty’. But conservative? No, not even a little bit.
This is romance re-imagined for the modern woman, and it feels spot-on for Spring & Summer styling (bridal party or guest fashion alike). Particularly for an outdoor celebration or a more relaxed botanical setting, where a little black cocktail dress just won’t do!
